All submissions must be made electronically, at https://precisionconference.com/~etra.
Authors are invited to submit original work either as a long paper (8 pages) or short paper (4 pages). All papers undergo a rigorous review process assessing the originality and quality of the work as well as the relevance for eye tracking research and applications. The accepted papers are selected by the program committee based on independent reviews, typically 3, received by each paper. All accepted papers (short and long) will be published in the conference proceedings, provided that at least one author attends the conference. Papers presented at ETRA 2014 will be available in the ACM digital library.
Only electronic submissions will be accepted.
The page limit for long papers is 8 pages. The reviewing process for ETRA2012 will be “double blind.” All submissions must be appropriately anonymized to conceal the authors’ identities and institutions.
Short papers should not exceed the limit of 4 pages and will undergo the same review process as long papers. Note that short papers also need to be blinded for peer review.All short papers will be presented as posters, and the best will be selected for presentation in the short paper conference session as well. Instructions for how to prepare the posters will be sent to the authors of the accepted short papers.
Maximum size of the posters are 42 inches wide and 42 inches tall. You may format your poster any size smaller than this at your own discretion.
The first step to submit a paper is to register the submission by submitting an abstract by 5 pm PDT, Sept. 30th, 2013. For the abstract submission, the authors’ information, the paper title and an abstract of a maximum of 1000 characters will be required. Abstracts must be submitted to the ETRA 2014 conference management system. The program committee will make reviewer assignments based upon the abstracts.
Please note, no new submissions will be allowed after the abstract deadline.
Completed papers must be submitted by 5 pm PDT, Oct. 4th, 2013. The abstract and title can be modified in the final submission, as long as the topic of the paper stays the same.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The submission process is different from past years, in that there is a single deadline for both long and short papers. Given the outcome of the first review process, papers may be invited to resubmit for an additional review. In some cases, long papers may be offered to resubmit their paper as a short paper.
Papers should be sent as PDF files, and should not exceed the limit of 8 pages for long papers and 4 pages for short papers. They should be prepared following the instructions found at: http://www.siggraph.org/publications/instructions.pdf.
To prepare the content of the PDF file, SIGGRAPH encourages authors to use LaTeX, but we also provide a Word template below.

When generating the PDF file, please make sure that the fonts are embedded in the PDF file. This will ensure that reviewers can view the paper without problems.
The submitted paper must be anonymized for peer review. This means that authors are expected to remove author and institutional identities from the title and header areas of the paper. Also, please make sure that identifying information does not appear in the document’s meta-data (e.g., the ‘Authors’ field in your word processor’s ‘Save As’ dialog box). Further suppression of identity in the body of the paper is left to the authors’ discretion.
We do expect that authors leave in citations to their previous work, so that reviewers can ensure that all previous research has been taken into account by the authors. Nonetheless, please avoid phrases such as “In this paper we build on top of our previous work presented in [reference]…” and, instead, use constructions such as “We extend the work presented in [reference]… “. Observe that you are allowed to extend anyone’s work, and only the first phrase reveals that you are the author of the previous work.
Both long papers and short papers can be submitted with a companion video. A video submission is not required, but encouraged to help clarify interaction with a gaze-based system, or give a better sense of particular gaze patterns which is not as easy to communicate with static images or textual descriptions. The aim of the video is to supplement the paper; acceptance to the conference will be based on the paper and not on the companion video.
A submitted companion video cannot be larger than 100 MB. We recommend using MP4 format with H.264 codec. Most video production systems can encode in this format and most video applications are able to play it. If you use a different codec, you risk that reviewers might not be able to view the video clip and you will need to re-encode the video clip for the conference proceeding disc. As for the paper submission, the companion video needs to be blinded for peer review.
Awards will be made for the best long paper, the best paper by a student, and the best short paper. Candidate papers which meet pre-set criteria for quality and originality will be identified by the program committee during the review process. (No award may be made in the unlikely event that no submissions satisfy the criteria.) If the best long or short paper is authored by a student, then no additional student paper award may be made. To be eligible for the best student paper award, the first author must be a degree candidate at the time of submission.
